Charleville Chamber understands the frustration caused by the current infrastructure works and empathise with both the business people and customers of Charleville Town, we acknowledge that these works are essential within the town and are in the interest of the public’s health and safety.
Charleville Chamber was informed that there would be upgrading works to Main Street, Charleville, with these works being carried out at night in order to minimise the disruption to local business and customers. The last time such works were undertaken on Main Street, Charleville it was successfully completed at night with minimum dispruption to all concerned. The full extent of the current infrastrucutre works beyond the Main Street to Charleville Park Hotel, Limerick Road and to the Medical Centre, Cork Road, has not been communicated to the businesses of Charleville or Charleville Chamber. Charleville Chamber are appealing to TII, Cork County Council and local elected representatives to communicate clearly with the business of Charleville Town and Charleville Chamber.
In light of additional infrastructure works required to replace the water mains on Limerick Road, we strongly recommend that the works would be paused while a proper and full engagement with all stakeholders is carried out in order to limit the disruption to business and customers.
Communications between TII, Cork County Council, resident engineer, the main contractor, the business of Charleville and Charleville Chamber needs to be improved and dealt with as a matter of urgency to avoid any further stress, anxiety and financial risks to local businesses. I call on the professionals in the TII design team, main contractor and Cork County Council to make an extra effort to engage with local business, understand the impact of the current infrastructure works on their businesses and work to minimise the disruption as much as possible. Working together to complete this project is paramount.
We would advise that people would plan their journeys while these works are ongoing, to avoid delays to their journey times.
In the meantime, we would like to acknowledge the loyalty of all customers to businesses in Charleville Town and ask that they continue doing business with the committed and hardworking business people of Charleville. Your patience and understanding is much appreciated and look forward to your continued support.
President Charleville Chamber of Commerce
