Name: Geary’s Bar also known as Gough Bar
Address: Main St, Charleville Cork Co. Cork
Owner: Mary Gough
Geary’s bar, known to the locals as Gough’s is a family owned and run public house steeped in tradition. The pub is iconic for its extremely traditional interior; the walls are bricked, the layout is long and narrow and there are numerous monuments and dedications to Irish history strategically placed throughout. This amazingly aesthetic and educational setting provides a calming and picturesque environment to relax and enjoy a beverage in. Gough’s is one of the busiest pubs in Charleville and is unique in the way that it can cater for large parties on the same night as attracting couples who just want a quite drink. This may be due to the fact that the pub has a number of different areas; the front is usually quieter than the back area.
The smoking area is one of the most impressive in the country. There is a stage present there also where live music is often performed by local and national talent such as Traffic, Tiny Giants and even the Coronas for Arthur’s Day 2013. The pints are crisp, the selection of spirits is varied and the bar food is delicious. There are not many bars that have it all in Ireland but Gough’s is certainly one of them.
