Charleville acts as the services centre for a large surrounding hinterland in the North Cork / South Limerick Region. As such, the town contains a number of large retail shops and centres as well as more traditional retail stores on the Main Street. Large supermarket chains such as Dunnes Stores, SuperValu and Centra can be found on the Main Street while a Lidl store can be found on the Limerick Road.

There are a number of large indigenous clothes shops that have operated in the town for over a hundred years such as Murray & Sons and Moran's. Smaller boutique shops such as Kimono and Lily White Brides Bridal Boutique also trade in the town.
